I'm not sure where Dorian comes into play in "Horse With No Name". Maybe it depends on how you describe the chords. Most times I've seen it played Am Em, which is ambiguous because those could be in either key Em or Am. I haven't transcribed it out myself. Some sources show the chords as Em D9/6 and Dmaj9. Without transcribing the melody we still can't declare a particular key.
Anyhow, modes are a whole 'nother can of worms. Somewhere I saw a book with something like 500 different mode scales, multiplied by 12 = thousands of possible scales. There are some really cool and bizarre modes out there.

You're right; practically every type of scale has modes. There are the modes of the major scale - which are the ones most players refer to when talking about the modes. But other scales, like the Pentatonic, Melodic Minor, Harmonic Minor - just to name a few - have modes too. Those are a lot of modes!  Really cool sounds to be discovered...

Can anyone here read sheet music?
My friend wants to get a tatoo but she wants the word in a song done in notes. The song is here ( 1st page ) http://www.musicnotes.com/sheetmusic...?ppn=MN0063721 and the word she wants is " Unwritten " which I think is the 4 notes in the 5th bar, starting on the actual 3rd note of that bar... Is that right if anyone can clairfy and confirm for me please?

I'm crazy about this chick! Nancy Wilson was hot then, and still is pretty darned ok now.
The guitar is an Adamas, one of the original prototype slotheads from the late 70's. This is #43, which the current owner let me and my daughter play at a guitar jam weekend. The body is a fiberglass bowl, the top is a carbon fiber sandwich. The neck is traditional wood construction, with the fretboard being resin impregnated walnut. I have never played a guitar that resonated so freely as this one. Kodiak, I envy your knowledge of theory. I know nothing. Luckily I can play anyway but I get frustrated by how little I know.
I completely agree about Nancy Wilson. I love a hot woman that can play. I also have a thing for Sheryl Crow. However, I hate Ovation and Adams guitars. Back in the day they were the only way to get decent acoustic sound live but they sound like shit when they aren't plugged in. Plus the shape makes it impossible to play sitting down. There are amazing pick up systems now that allow you to make any acoustic sound great live.
